Hat-Trick For BIIAB Good Practice Scheme

Released

25/06/2009

Summary

A year on since the launch of its Good Practice Recognition Scheme (GPRS), BIIAB has announced a further three companies which have received the respected approval for their training schemes.

Musgrave Retail Partners GB, which owns the Londis and Budgens chains among others, has received GPRS approval for its ‘Licensing Team Member Training Programme’. The programme has been developed for Musgrave by licensing solicitor Turbervilles, based in Uxbridge, Middlesex. Turbervilles is a BIIAB approved training centre and licensing manager Sally Hills and partner David Smith are both Affiliate Members of BII, actively encouraging their clients to receive professional recognition by becoming members themselves. Vicky Edwards, Retail Training Coordinator for Musgrave Retail Partners GB, commented: “Being awarded the GPRS will show our retail partners that we are committed to providing training which enhances the existing Underage Sales Brochure already being used by many retailers.”

Poppleston Allen Training, based in Nottingham and London, has achieved the GPRS badge for its ‘Gambling Act 2005 Training for Licensing Committee Members’ and ‘Licensing Act 2003 Training for Licensing Committee Members’ programmes. The courses have been designed to increase awareness of the changes and new responsibilities under gambling and licensing reform. They are intended to prepare councillors prior to taking up their positions on licensing committees, to update existing committee members and keep officers up to date on any changes to the interpretation of both laws.

J Sainsbury’s PLC’s ‘New Beginnings Induction Training Programme’ for Scotland has also been awarded the BIIAB GPRS seal of approval. J Sainsbury’s has 28 stores in Scotland and is committed to providing its staff with the best training available. The programme has been designed to ensure new and existing staff understand the Think 21 policy and Scottish licensing laws.

As the licensed retail industry’s leading awarding body, BIIAB is well-placed to offer this system of approval. Recognition under the scheme acknowledges that the processes, aims and objectives underpinning a training programme comply with “good practice” criteria and that the training meets the needs of the industry, in line with licensing legislation where appropriate.

BIIAB’s operation and accreditation of the scheme provides credibility and gives training providers a hallmark of quality for their programmes. Cathie Smith, director of BIIAB, commented: “Organisations awarded recognition under the GPRS can demonstrate to staff and customers their commitment to professionalism, and can benefit from wider recognition that their training programmes meet externally recognised standards. The GPRS has been extremely successful and I offer my congratulations to all the companies who have received approval.”

All three companies are long-standing BIIAB approved centres and BIIAB is delighted to support these examples of good practice. Once officially recognised, organisations can use the BIIAB GPRS logo.
