Summary

BII members may be interested to get involved with a songwriting competition which culminates at ‘Fifestock Café’, a five-day showcase event taking place at The Inn at Lathones, St Andrews, in April, followed by another event in October.

The creator of the Fifestock Music Festival has joined forces with the legendary Bluebird Cafe from Nashville, Tennessee to form Fifestock Cafe. The search has begun to find talented songwriters from across the UK to take part in the first of two exclusive five-day showcase events taking place at The Inn at Lathones in Fife this April.  The second event is planned for October.

The Bluebird Cafe is synonymous with great songwriters offering them inspiration and support through regular performances at their famous ‘Open Mic’ and ‘Sunday Writers' nights.  Notables include Garth Brooks, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Art Garfunkel, Dixie Chicks, Emmylou Harris, Janis Ian, Faith Hill, Carole King, Bonnie Raitt and Taylor Swift.

This will be the first time The Bluebird Cafe has visited Europe to showcase their approach to the techniques of songwriting and performing and to deliver a series of writers’ workshops. Evening performances will open with the British act Andrea Glass. Other acts secured to perform include: Don Henry, Craig Carothers, Kim Richey and Danny Flowers. Tickets will cost approximately £15.

The UK songwriting competition is divided into two categories: an over-21s competition in April 2010 and an under-21s competition in October 2010.  Entrants are required to submit 3 original songs on CD to be considered to perform at the event for judge and accomplished songwriter Benny Gallagher, of Gallagher and Lyle fame.

The top prize in each category is a day in a studio to record the winning song, a residential place on a songwriting course with either Benny Gallagher or Iain Matthews held at the Inn at Lathones and the opportunity to perform the winning song at a live performance at a subsequent Fifestock Cafe.

The first Fifestock Cafe runs from 13 – 20 April 2010 at The Inn at Lathones. Tickets will be available from The Inn at Lathones (www.theinn.co.uk). For up-to-date information about the competition visit www.mundellmusic.com
